Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) reaches End of Life on July 17 2014
On behalf of the Ubuntu Release Team, Adam Conrad reminded that Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) is reaching end of life on July 17. Also informed that the upgrade path is via 14.04 LTS (url to instructions and caveats included).

Robert Ancell: GTK+ applications in Unity 8 (Mir)
Robert Ancell does a demonstration of Unity 8 with Mir running GTK+ applications. In this case, he used Simple Scan to get an image. He finishes the post indicating the current known limitations and explaining how to install the Unity 8 preview session. He also thanks the collaboration of Ryan Lortie, who, with him, has been trying to make GTK+ applications run in Unity 8 smoothly.

Ubuntu Forum Council Changes
The Ubuntu Forums Council has seven members, all being administrators of the ubuntuforums and approved by the Community Council. Sef (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=57646) has stepped down and bapoumba (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=171805) has joined the FC again (previously on The FC from February 2009 to December 2011). Sef will remain in the ubuntuforums Staff team as a moderator, we would like to thank him for the work and time he dedicated to the forums, and wish him all the best for his future personal projects.

Lee Hutchinson of Ars Technica gets hands on with the newly released Orange Box by Canonical running Ubuntu with OpenStack. He kicks off his thorough review, which includes screenshots of Juju and MaaS, with the teaser: “Take ten high-end Intel NUCs, a gigabit Ethernet switch, a couple of terabytes of storage, and cram it all into a fancy custom enclosure. What does that spell? Orange Box.”
