Willem is currently a consultant with Open Analytics where he mostly uses R as programming language and some Python and is currently working on an Object Relational Mapper in R.

Dustin Kirkland: (Re-)Introducing JeOS -- Just Enough OS, aka Ubuntu Core

Dustin Kirkland reminds us all that the bare minimal Ubuntu Server variant that was first introduced in 2007 known as JeOS (pronounced “juice”) has been available ever since under the moniker Ubuntu Core and at only 63mb in size compressed it is the ideal solution for virtual machines and appliances.

Charles Profitt: Ubuntu UDS – November 12 -14

The next Ubuntu Developer Summit will be happening from the 12th until the 14th of November 2014. Since its move to a fully online format a diverse range of participants from all over the globe have been enabled to participate. The planning for the summit is now going on and Charles informs the community that thoughts and ideas can be submitted via the available link the blog post.

Cisco Systems Releases UCS Big Data CVD Based on Ubuntu OpenStack

Cisco releases a Cisco Validated Design (CVD) based on OpenStack on Ubuntu. Thus CDV is for Hadoop as a Service (HaaS) with Cisco UCS Common Platform Architecture (CPA v2) for Big Data and OpenStack .
