Vacant Developer Membership Board seat: Call for nominations

Micah Gersten appeals for nominations for a replacement member of the Developer Membership Board which is responsible for reviewing and approving new Ubuntu developers. He describes the voting process, advises the various deadlines involved, and asks that nominees add a short statement to their Wiki page so that others get a better idea of who they are voting for.

Department of Meteorology and Hydrology - Ubuntu Class

Ko Ko Ye writes that the Ubuntu Myanmar LoCo Team was asked to give a lecture about Ubuntu and a few members of the Team provided two days of training. Surprisingly the Departments were still running Ubuntu 08.04 in fear that their applications only ran on that version so the LoCo Team helped to upgrade and fix their applications.

Flisol Bogotá 2015 – Press Information

Jhosman Lizarazo writes about FLISoL, the largest Free Software event in Latin America with over 20 countries working together. The event has lectures, presentations and workshops, and has been held annually since 2005 in various Colombian cities.

Svetlana Belkin interviews Ubuntu Membership Board member Walter Lapchynski who talks about what he does for a career, how long he has been involved with Ubuntu, and some of the projects he's worked on over the years. Walter says he joined the board because he was curious about the governance of the Ubuntu community, and that part of his focus in Ubuntu today is encouraging more contributions.

Charles Profitt recalls his experience in ordering and taking delivery of a Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition laptop. He says that although Ubuntu 14.04 was pre-installed he opted to install Ubuntu 15.04 and that everything he tested is working properly.

OTA Update 4 for RTM

Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak informs us of some nice features that have landed in Ubuntu Touch with the newest OTA-4.The features include MMS group-chat support, a new welcome wizard, upgrade to Qt 5.4, and a new Ubuntu UI Toolkit 1.2.

Pierre Bertet writes that after the previous article about Grid Units the Design Team is covering the technical aspect. Basically the pixel count for each Grid Unit is decided by the OS relating to the screen size and density.

Canonical advises that Mellanox Tech is launching the worlds first 25/100 Gigabit Ethernet-based switch. Powering this switch is none other than is Snappy Ubuntu Core.

BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition Is Now Available for Purchase Without Pre-Order

Marius Nestor of Softpedia informs us that BQ and Canonical have announced that the BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition has moved from pre-order to being available to buy. Marius says that pre-orders for the phone, which will only be available in countries that are part of the European Union, Norway and Switzerland, will probably be shipped by the end of June.
