Extended Security Maintenance for Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) began April 25 2019

Adam Conrad, on behalf of the Ubuntu Release Team, confirms Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "basic" support has ended. Shortly the images will be archived with the primary archive moving to old-releases. We are reminded that for those who must remain on the 14.04 release Canonical offers Extended Security Support through Ubuntu Advantage. Adam provides links for further details and to general support.

Mark Shuttleworth sees increased demand for enterprise Ubuntu Linux desktop

Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols summarizes a conversation with Mark Shuttleworth during the Open Infrastructure Summit. Of note is Canonical actively supporting the desktop for commercial enterprises in the realm of artificial intelligence development. Additionally, the adoption of GNOME 3 desktop is exposed, and Steven touches on the structure for a Canonical IPO, quoting several of Mark's comments.

Shuttleworth Tells OpenStack to Keep Its Focus on the Cloud

Ubuntu 19.10 to Be Released on October 17th, Now Open for Development

Marius Nestor reports that 19.10 has officially entered development and tells of updated components and some changes in the architectures. Marius provides the release schedule and advises that the final is expected to ship with GNOME 3.34 and maybe the Linux 5.3 kernel series.

The Official Ubuntu Merch Shop Has Closed Down

Joey Sneddon writes of the abrupt closure of the Ubuntu Store, Joey talks of the emergence of the store and the products that were offered. No details are available for the reasons behind the closure, but, we are assured by Canonical’s Alan Pope "there will be a way to continue to buy official merchandise".

Are You a Dev? Take the Dell Ubuntu Developer Survey

Joey Sneddon informs us of a coalition between Dell and Canonical to determine the needs of the developer community. A survey has been made available to help in "creating hardware and software that meet the needs of those users". The survey is open until Friday 31 May 2019 and it is expected that the results will be made public.
