Focal Fossa - Mascot & Wallpapers

Martin Wimpress introduces us to the new Ubuntu 20.04 LTS feline mascot that some members of the community have named Felicity. Felicity is found on the new wallpapers with pictures provided. Art assets are provided so the community can alter the templates. Martin gives links should we want to download the images and look for ourselves in more detail.

The Planet

APT 2.0 released

Andres Klode, in the release announcement, advises that 2.0 is now landing in unstable. Andres says "APT 2.0 series features several new features, as well as improvements in performance, hardening. A lot of code has been removed as well, reducing the size of the library." He lists new features, performance improvements, a change in regular expressions or wildcards arguments, hardening, and developer changes.

Ubuntu Studio advises that ten entries have been selected to be included on the daily Focal Fossa (future 20.04 LTS) daily ISO images. Imgur pics are provided.

GNOME Shell To Ship New App For Managing Extensions

Canonical Cancels Physical Windows Subsystem for Linux Event, Now Online-Only

Bogdan Popa informs us that Canonical has announced the WSLConf scheduled for this month is now an online-only event due to coronavirus. Originally planned for the Microsoft Campus in Redmond WA [https://ubuntu.com/blog/wslconf-the-first-conference-dedicated-to-windows-subsystem-for-linux-goes-virtual], presentations will now be streamed, with online interactions catered for.

Ubuntu 20.04 Atop ZFS+Zsys Will Take Snapshots On APT Operations

Michael Larabel makes us aware of new features within the desktop ZFS support in Ubuntu 20.04. Notably is auto snapshots that enable system rollback.

APT 2.0 Released For Debian Package Management

Michael Larabel highlights the work completed over the past year on Apt 2.0, it is officially released. Michael briefs us of it's aptitude-style patterns, new lock handling, a new satisfy sub-command and use of libgcrypt for hashes.
