New service announcement: https://debuginfod.ubuntu.com

Sergio Durigan Junior announces a "new service for the Ubuntu community". Providing us with details of debuginfod, we are told the service is currently in beta; Sergio warns the deployment may change. If you're using a release that doesn't have automatic configuration of the service, details to get it going are provided, with links for more details where required.

Kinetic Kudu (22.10) UI Freeze

Lukasz Zemczak on behalf of the Ubuntu Release team announces "Effective NOW, we are officially under the User Interface Freeze for Kinetic"; additional details are provided for what this means.

Call for Ubuntu Community Council nominations

José Antonio Rey calls for nominees for the upcoming Ubuntu Community Council election. All seven seats need to be filled, with terms lasting two years. Details of what is involved, requirements of applicants and links for more are provided, including how submissions are shortlisted and voting performed. A link to the discourse is provided for any questions, and thanks in advance is offered to all who participate in making Ubuntu better.

Calls for talks and workshop extended until Sept 28

Youngbin Han makes another call for talk and workshop proposals [UbuCon Asia 2022 - Nov 26-27 Seoul, South Korea], noting the date for submissions has been extended by two weeks. The reason for this is provided, in that with the 42 proposals provided, there weren't enough "Workshops, Korean sessions and sessions with Intermediate/Advanced level difficulty" with a short mention on what proposals so far are for. Details on making a proposal, travel sponsorship & more are given.

Britt Yazel reminds us the Ubuntu 22.10 release is "just around the corner", and provides us a view of the submissions in the Kinetic Kudu 22.10 Wallpaper Competition. We're asked to vote for our favorite(s), with no limit to how many we vote for. The dates of voting closure and when the winners are to be announced are given.

Ubuntu Linux and Azure DNS Problem Gives Azure Fits

Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols starts by telling us Linux has been "the most popular virtual machine (VM) operating system on Microsoft Azure" for three years now. Continuing on, Steven then moves to the recent Ubuntu 18.04 issues on Azure. He gives the date of the start of the problem, and when it ended. We are told of the reason for the problem, and what the effects were. We are also told why it only impacted Azure, given clues on fixing it, and reminded to always check our production systems and DNS.

This Flutter-based Unofficial Software Center Might Replace Ubuntu's Official App

Sagar Sharma writes that Ubuntu is considered "one of the best" distributions for beginners, but that GNOME Software Center needs to improve. Sagar tells us why, and that Canonical and others have teamed up to produce a lightweight, flutter-based alternative to Ubuntu Software Center. With some screenshots, we are told what Sagar sees in it, and then asked if this is going to replace the Ubuntu Software. Links are provided.

Papirus Icon Set’s September Update Adds 38 New Icons

Joey Sneddon reports a new Papirus icon theme is available, giving us details of what's been improved or added to it. Along with some pictures of the icons, we're given the commands required to add it to our Ubuntu system.

KDE Frameworks 5.98 Makes File Transfers Faster in KDE Apps, Brings More New Features

Marius Nestor tells us the KDE Project has released KDE Frameworks 5.98, giving us some details of what's included in this release. We are also told of some of the fixes included in the "more than 200 minor changes", given a recommendation to update when we can, and a link to changelog for more details.

KDE Plasma 5.26 Beta Released With New "Plasma Bigscreen" Interface For TVs

Michael Larabel reports the KDE community has released the beta of the Plasma 5.26 desktop. In providing details of the new features included, such as a UI optimized for TV or large screens, we are given a link to the KDE.org site for even more details.

Ubuntu 22.10 Aiming To Support The $16+ Sipeed LicheeRV RISC-V Board

Michael Larabel reminds us of some of the other RISC-V boards Ubuntu supports, we are now told Ubuntu 22.10 will support the Sipeed LicheeRV board; a cheap board that "starts at $16.90 USD". We are given some details of the board, and reminded that whilst it's slower than a Raspberry Pi, it still has many IoT uses. We are told of a feature free exception, and plans for a DKMS-based WiFi driver.

Ji m introduces “Aylur’s Widgets”; a new extension for the top panel for GNOME 42/43. Ji m discloses the five useful additions, with screenshot highlights, and the install instructions.

How Ubuntu and Debian GNOME work better together

A video from DebConf Kosovo (20-July-2022) recently posted to Youtube with the presentation by Jeremy Bicha (Debian, Ubuntu & Canonical). "This presentation discusses the recent history and current status of Debian and Ubuntu collaboration in the packaging team. It concludes with a discussion of what works well, where more work is needed, and ideas for the future."
