Graham Inggs informs us that Mantic Minotaur is "open for development". We're told auto-sync has been enabled, and requests help if any "breakage" should occur, with a link to the release schedule.

COSCUP 2023: Ubuntu Taiwan LoCo + UbuCon Asia booth

Youngbin Han tells us of plans to "setup a joint Ubuntu Taiwan LoCo + UbuCon Asia booth on COSCUP 2023 to promote both Ubuntu TW folks and UbuCon Asia this year". With some details, including some people who've joined, and others who may join, we're given some links to learn more about COSCUP CFP (call for participation) for the 2023 event.

Lubuntu 20.04 LTS End of Life and Current Support Statuses

Dan Simmons on behalf of the Lubuntu team reminds users of Lubuntu 20.04 LTS of the initial release dates; the three years of supported life having now ended. Users are recommended to upgrade to Lubuntu 22.04 LTS. Dan provides some links and reminders of the currently supported releases.

Ubuntu MATE 23.04: Best Features and Updates

Arindam relates his experience with this official Ubuntu flavor featuring the super-lightweight MATE desktop. He discusses the enhancements and notable changes and updates in various apps. Arindam does note, however, that Ubuntu MATE “still uses the old Ubiquity installer to keep it simple and straightforward for its user base". In conclusion Arindam states the release is a compelling choice.

Ubuntu 23.04 ‘Lunar Lobster’ Lands With Newly Minted Cinnamon Desktop Flavor

Jack Germain reminds us Ubuntu 23.04 released on 20 April 2023, and is "the first and only Linux distribution to enable native user authentication with Microsoft’s Azure Active Directory". We're given some details of what is found in the release, before moving to the history of the Ubuntu Cinnamon remix, with Ubuntu Cinnamon 23.04 now an official flavor. We're told the remix will still exist too.

Ubuntu 18.04 Standard Support Ends This Month

Joey Sneddon reminds us that Ubuntu 18.04 LTS reaches end of standard support on 31 May 2023. We're given some details of Ubuntu Pro (if we don't want to upgrade), or a link on how to upgrade to the newer Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Ubuntu 23.10 Looks Like It Will Switch To Using Dbus-Broker

Michaal Larabel tells us whilst some distributions like Fedora have used Dbus-Broker for 'years', it looks like Ubuntu will transition to this too with Ubuntu 23.10. We're given the details, which includes the Ubuntu MIR request, and told this will ensure it's ready to go for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

AMD SoundWire Merged For Linux 6.4

Michael Larabel reminds us Intel started working on MIPI SoundWire in 2016, and now AMD support has landed in the mainline kernel. We're given some details and told it'll be available with the 6.4 Linux kernel.

LibreOffice 7.5.3 Is Now Available for Download with 119 Bug Fixes

Marius Nestor writes that the Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 7.5.3 addressing 119 reported bugs. We're given links to changelogs for more details, and reminded of the LibreOffice 7.5 history and support.

Want More Wallpapers in Ubuntu? Install GNOME Backgrounds

Joey Sneddon mentions the wallpapers that came with Ubuntu 23.04 which contain a number of largely lobster themed wallpapers, but users may want more. Joey discusses the gnome-backgrounds package which will allow you to easily add more, without the need of spending time browsing the web for more. Details of the wallpapers are available on GNOME Gitlab.
