Ubuntu Wiki talk:Migration

Move to Project/Ubuntu Wiki or Help namespace

Since this article is about the wiki itself, we should consider moving it to the Ubuntu Wiki namespace. An alternative would be the Help namespace since it is a guide on doing something on the wiki. Kkuo (talk) 05:04, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think that Project:Migration would be appropriate. Shanecrowley (talk) 06:59, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Improve section on Old Wiki Deprecation

Hi, I'm one of the users who didn't know the old wiki was going away, and am learning this, or being reminded of it, by visiting this page.

Could we include a summary of why this change has occurred, or at the very least, a link to the previous communications about the change, so people can learn more about it?

I would suggest a change myself but this is news to me and I'm not sure how to search for the information. Semitones (talk) 15:26, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Semitones. There's a series of public posts on the Ubuntu Discourse going back to last year. After the weekend, I will see about integrating that information (as links) into this page. Good suggestion. Shanecrowley (talk) 15:34, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I added this section Ubuntu Wiki:About#Relaunch of the wiki to the About page, which is prominently linked in the footer. It contains links to previous communications about the project.
I also linked to this section from the Ubuntu Wiki:Migration page. Shanecrowley (talk) 09:40, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you :) I tried to edit the Ubuntu Wiki:Migration page myself, but was blocked by the captcha -- I did not have any way to execute a command on a ubuntu system from my phone. Semitones (talk) 15:13, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Strange. I have yet to be hit with a captcha. It's supposed to be only triggered by suspicious behavior, like repeated/bulk actions.
Also, the mobile issue is something that we should consider. I'll raise this with the others. Shanecrowley (talk) 15:20, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Update @Semitones --- did you possibly try to add an external link? If you are not autoconfirmed, then that can be flagged as suspicious because that's a known risk when it comes to bots.
Still, it's not nice to get a captcha on mobile that you can't solve. We'll need to think about that (I say this as someone who frequently edits on my own phone). Shanecrowley (talk) 15:33, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
