You might first want to look at my [http://live.gnome.org/VincentUntz GNOME wiki page] Smile :-)

My work on Ubuntu

My main work for Ubuntu is related to GNOME (since I'm a GNOME hacker...). I've helped by fixing some bugs, adding some functionnalities. It's difficult to find the bugs for which I made patches but I made many patches before Warty. I've also implemented the new main menu in the panel for Ubuntu (and integrated it into GNOME) and some other features for Hoary.

I've helped making the ASUS M6Ne laptop support [http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=anywordssubstr&short_desc=asus+m6ne&long_desc_type=substring&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=&emailassigned_to1=1&emailreporter1=1&emailcc1=1&emaillongdesc1=1&emailtype1=substring&email1=untz&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailqa_contact2=1&emailcc2=1&emailtype2=substring&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0= rock] and I think that Matthew's work on hotkeys that doesn't generate a keyboard event is based on some of my [http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=10771 work].

I helped with the summer of code of [http://www.manucornet.net/ Manu Cornet].

I also triage bugs in Ubuntu's bugzilla and help on ubuntu-devel (although I don't have a lot of time to do so lately).

Future for Ubuntu & me

What can I give to Ubuntu? I can't exactly know, but it'll be related around these things:

  • GNOME integration and making GNOME better
  • bug days
  • Ubuntu-fr
  • advocacy

I don't think I can do all this on my own and in fact, I don't want to do this alone: cooperation is essential. Becoming an Ubuntu member would definitely help me with this, IMHO.

I'm in the last year of my PhD thesis so it's true that I probably won't have a lot of time to make all this real. But I want to be more active Smile :-)

GNOME stuff

I'll of course continue to hack on GNOME. I believe I can help implementing some features that should be in GNOME and that Ubuntu badly wants. I also will continue to help with identifying/fixing some Ubuntu-specific bugs.

Bug days

I'd like to see more Ubuntu bug days. More triage. Less bugs. I'm active for the GNOME bug days and I believe I know what it involves and how it should be done.

Ubuntu-fr

Right now, I'm not involved in Ubuntu-fr. One of the reason is that, as far as I can see, Ubuntu-fr is more a support/translator organization than anything else. For now. I'd like to see Ubuntu-fr more involved in advocacy and also Ubuntu development.

I'd also like to help Ubuntu-fr translators coordinate with other translators. I'm not a translator myself, though Wink ;-)

Advocacy

I'm a GNOME advocate. I already do some Ubuntu advocacy when I'm at a GNOME booth (we distributed > 500 Ubuntu CD at the RMLL, eg) but I think we can do a better job at this, in France and other french-speaking countries.

This is important and I have some experience in this area.

People who can confirm all this

SebastienBacher, JeffWaugh, LionelDricot and a lot of other people can probably confirm most of what is written here.
