Introduction

We are preparing Kubuntu Wily Werewolf (15.10) for distribution on October 22nd, 2015. With this Alpha 2 pre-release, you can see what we are trying out in preparation for our next (stable) version.

The Kubuntu team are committed to releasing 15.10 in October.

NOTE:

This is Alpha 2 Release. Kubuntu Alpha Releases are NOT recommended for:

  • Regular users who are not aware of pre-release issues
  • Anyone who needs a stable system
  • Anyone uncomfortable running a possibly frequently broken system
  • Anyone in a production environment with data or workflows that need to be reliable

Kubuntu Alpha Releases are recommended for:

  • Regular users who want to help us test by finding, reporting, and/or fixing bugs
  • Kubuntu, KDE, and Qt developers

Getting Kubuntu 15.10 Alpha 2

Upgrading from 15.04

Download a Disk Image

Note that this does not work To upgrade to Kubuntu 15.10 pre-releases from 15.04, run kubuntu-devel-release-upgrade from a command line.
Note that this does not work.

Download a Bootable image and put it onto a DVD or USB Drive

Designed to be a Breeze, Plasma 5 is now the default

Plasma 5, the next generation of KDE's desktop has been rewritten to make it smoother to use while retaining the familiar setup. The third set of updates to Plasma 5 is the default in this version of Kubuntu.

KDE Applications 15.04

Kubuntu comes with KDE Applications 15.04 containing all your favourite apps from KDE. This is the 15.04.1 update with bugfixes and translation updates. Several applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5 but those which aren't should fit in seamlessly.

Non-KDE applications include LibreOffice 4.4 and Firefox 38.

Bugs tagged Kubuntu 15.10

  • (1404239) use_libarchive_for_zip_files causes problems

  • (1413521) desktop folderview needs to be added on first boot on oem installs

  • (1439720) Port kubuntu_langpack_desktop_files.diff for .desktop gettext support

  • (1442512) Apport-kde crash when reporting bugs

  • (1449265) accounts kcm can not change user's password because kdepasswd is missing

  • (1451728) kde-config-telepathy-accounts package install error

Feedback

Development of Kubuntu 15.10, the Wily Werewolf, is ongoing and bugs are fixed every day. Before reporting bugs, please ensure your system is up to date. For verifying installation related bugs, updated disk images are available from Daily bootable images for standard PCs and laptops.
