Who I am

My name is Gabriela Bittencourt, and I have been a member of the Ubuntu Kernel Team since November 2025. I have been contributing to Linux Kernel and mentoring new contributors in my free time since 2018, it's really nice to be doing this in my full time now :).

My Ubuntu story

Ubuntu was the first OS I had on a personal computer, at the time I was not as comfortable with computers as I am today but Ubuntu played an important role to the developer I became. During my studies I helped to begin a study group on Linux Kernel at my University, during this time I could play around the Kernel project in different subsystems and help others to have their first contact with the Linux Kernel code. In this group we also promote some install-fests: event to help people to install Linux for the first time on their machines -- we had a variety of distros in these events, but Ubuntu (alongside with Debian) were the most installed ones since they are the most friendly for starters.

My involvement

During my time at Canonical I've studied FIPS compliance and I am focus on the FIPS kernels and aws kernels, but I have also worked in a variety of tasks like: cranky different kernels, prepare patches, apply patches, review patches from the mailing list, test investigation.
