• Use lspci to find the network adapter and graphics card ("VGA compatible controller" usually)

• Download the latest release from http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/.

• system, administration, USB startup disk creator
• click "other", find the downloaded ISO
• Insert a USB stick. THIS WILL BE ERASED.
• click "format" on the drive (e.g. sdc) not partition (e.g. sdc1)
• click on partition and "make startup disk"
• Boot with this stick
• "Try Ubuntu without making changes"
• Attempt to launch Firefox and browse to launchpad.net
• Put the results here, organized by the hardware as reported by lspci
• If something goes wrong, discuss in the forums and try to put together a solid bug report
