Who I am
My name is Luke Nowakowski-Krijger. I am a Kernel Developer with the Ubuntu Kernel Team since early August 2020.
I graduated from the University of California San Diego with a Bachelors in Computer Engineering in Jan 2020. While I was still in school I interned for VMware where I helped improve self identification in VMs. I also worked as a TA for an analog circuit design class where I helped oversee class and lab discussions as well as helped in designing course material. In this time I also contributed to the Linux kernel by contributing patches to the V4L2 framework and with minor fixes in other places.
Throughout college I have also (whenever I had spare time) worked on building a hobby kernel from scratch where I learned and grew my interest for OS and kernel development. I plan on picking it back up one day and continue building and learning about kernel design and development.
My Ubuntu story
I started my Ubuntu journey early on in college when I started taking CS classes and was discovering all the different tools and OS's that were out there. I then switched from Ubuntu to Arch Linux where I was humbled almost every day for a solid year, and finally came back to Ubuntu as my daily driver to appreciate the stability and usability it has to offer.
My involvement
I work on the Stable Kernel Team where I help in the SRU process of updating, testing, packaging, and releasing Ubuntu's stable kernels. This involves cranking kernels, reviewing tests, reviewing patches on the mailing list and backporting patch fixes. I have also helped in triaging CVEs and backporting CVE fixes to the stable kernels, as well as fixing broken tests. I have also contributed in improving the LTP cgroup API to make it easier for developers to write cgroup controller tests.

I'm requesting upload rights for the kernel package set for all active series, which includes all the "linux*" packages.
Things I could do better
I often feel like I could do a better job of reaching out to people with questions instead of trying to figure out some things myself. I also feel that I could do a better job participating more often in mailing list review to help things get moving quicker.

I have worked with Luke since he started at Canonical and have reviewed a large chunk of his work along with helped with his training. Luke always does a great job and is careful enough to catch most mistakes on his own. He's been quick to learn anything tossed his way and more. I'm confident if Luke is stuck or curious on anything, he'll seek out help as he's been doing previously. General Feedback
Over the last few cycles I have reviewed a couple of kernels which were prepared by Luke and found those usually well prepared. There have been a few cases where things were complicated when additional iterations were made. But Luke picked any feedback very quickly. I have no objections to grant PPU rights to Luke.
Suggestions for Improvement
We have the problem that we have, in order to manage the volume of kernels we have to do, wrapped most of the steps into helpers. This simplifies the production of kernels but makes it hard to understand why things are done the way they are done. So whenever there will be a new kernel source started, it is useful to step back and trying to understand why something is done. Like why or when to use backport and when derivative or is something a flavour name or part of the source name? Why is a particular version number used? And when there are questions, try to ask in a team channel and not in private. There is always someone else who could learn from the discussion or might have more details.

I have reviewed a number of kernels from Luke and they were all prepared with care. In cases where issues were found, Luke fixed them quickly and was always open to receive feedback. After cranking several kernels and preparing a new backport for an LTS release, I believe Luke is ready to get his upload rights for kernel packages and I am confident he will use the new assigned permissions with care.
