KernelUploadsApplication

I, Roger Knecht, apply for the Ubuntu Kernel Uploaders team membership, to get upload rights for the linux-* packages.

Who I am

My name is Roger Knecht, and I have been a member of the Ubuntu Kernel Team since January 2024.

My Ubuntu story

My Linux journey started in 2007 by whipping my computer's operating system with Debian Etch. The successful installation was my very beginning in Open Source and brought me a few moments of joy before realizing that my wifi isn't working due to some missing proprietary firmware :-/

Since then I was stuck with Linux. My curiosity in how things work internally led me to Gentoo and when my patience for compiling packages was finally exhausted I settled for Ubuntu.

My involvement

I have been involved in the SRU (Stable Release Updates) process of releasing various Ubuntu kernel packages.

Things I could do better

  • Get more experience in ADT and RT testing

Plans for the future

  • Document the kernel cranking review process
  • Get more involved into CVE backporting

General feedback

I reviewed many kernels prepared by Roger and they all were done with care and attention to details. If a mistake was made, he quickly solved it. Roger is also very proactive when it comes to things he's not sure about. This shows he cares a lot about the quality of his work. I fully believe Roger will make proper use of his upload rights.

General feedback

I've been reviewing Roger's kernels for some time now. They've always been carefully prepared, and I especially appreciated that he worked with me on making sure some DKMS changes made it into a backport kernel that he was working on. He's been very responsive and has my full endorsement.

General feedback

I uploaded kernels from Roger and all of them were looking good. There was some issues in the beginning but we worked together to fix them before upload. Roger has been proactive in asking questions about the cranking process and I am sure questions will be asked again if necessary in the future. As such, I believe Roger will make good use of their upload rights.
