I deal with older technology and until recently operated a PowerPC running Lucid Lynx. I also utilize a kirkwood-based SheevaPlug for back-end operations in conjunction with my fairly modern x86-based netbook. As Ubuntu does not support the kirkwood variant of ARM I end up gaining proficiency with Debian using Squeeze. Tiered service levels is how I describe my view of computing. My operations are split among my smartphone, the SheevaPlug, my netbook running Lucid Lynx, and the desktop that is built like Frankenstein's monster with salvaged parts. Operationally usage is split across devices. My desktop provides experience in other Linux traditions to help broaden my horizons. My netbook from System76 runs Xubuntu 12.04.1 and travels with me frequently.

Currently I am looking to acquire another ARM board to balance load as well as at least one Arduino to build a bit of a smarter recording radio receiver to put into unattended deployment at a central location in Ashtabula County.

About Me

I am the Head Writer at Erie Looking Productions and present The Burning Circle, the podcast of the Ohio LoCo Team. The podcast now has over sixty episodes and has been active for over a calendar year. Outside the Ubuntu realm I have presented since December 2007 LISTen: An LISNews.org Podcast which deals with more general issues in the realm of library and information science.

I have currently bricked a SheevaPlug and am hurriedly repurposed my BeagleBoard-xM to bridge the gap. Thanks to the SSH client I found for my my old-timey Nokia smartphone, I still have remote access to a number of things including machines in-house. The desktop is a hand-me-down that has outright crashed booting the LTS live CD but yet somehow booted the installers for VectorLinux Light 7.0 and Mageia 2 successfully.

I have been an Ubuntu Member since March 15, 2012.
