Tiered service levels is how I describe my view of computing. I do not currently have a working desktop so operations are split among my smartphone, the SheevaPlug, and my netbook. About Me

I am the Head Writer at Erie Looking Productions and present The Burning Circle, the podcast of the Ohio LoCo Team. The podcast now has over sixty episodes and has been active for over a calendar year. Outside the Ubuntu realm I have presented since December 2007 LISTen: An LISNews.org Podcast which deals with more general issues in the realm of library and information science.

I bricked a SheevaPlug and repurposed my BeagleBoard-xM to bridge the gap fulfilling desktop and server roles. My my old-timey Nokia smartphone is dead and an old flip phone is being utilized with my e-mail being bounced on occasion to the phone via the magic of an MMS gateway. The hand-me-down desktop that previously was in use running VectorLinux Light 7.0 has been put into storage due to power budget issues involving a month-on-month tripling of kilowatt-hour usage. No, I cannot really say I have a ton of consistently working equipment at the moment.

Right now my netbook serves up what it can and travels with me. The BeagleBoard-xM is functioning as a desktop with some server functions. There is a Raspberry Pi that initially served as a general purpose server but has been redirected to running MediaTomb as part of an in-home project. An Arudino has been purchased by a benefactor which will allow some work in experimentation along the lines of building perhaps a timebase focusing on WWV/WWVH or some other project that comes to mind with what junkbox parts I do have on-hand.

Equipment donations via this configured Amazon wishlist are graciously accepted in this time of cutbacks and continuing equipment failures. As I am not currently gainfully employed, anything received is gratefully appreciated with a cheerful heart. I plan to resume studies but that is uncertain at this time as to how it may proceed.

I have been an Ubuntu Member since March 15, 2012.
