== Opening Communication Lines ==
Things are moving along for getting communication lines open and running.

Currently we have our IRC Channel '''#ubuntu-connecticut ''' up and running and are having fun meetings.
Our [http://connecticut.ubuntuforums.org Forum] is pretty active, with conversations going on about the Team, Ubuntu and current events that effect us.
We hope to have a mailing list soon. Check back and in the forums for the announcement.
== Team Identity ==
A portion of setting up the team is making it '''ours''', with it's own identity. One step we are performing is looking at the Logo used by the Team.

Introduction

My first thoughts on the purpose of this team is to provide a means for Ubuntu (and Linux in general) users to find and be able to call upon other people in Connecticut for support, help and encouragement when demonstrating, install-fests and any other formal or informal meetings to discuss the uses and advantages people can find in Ubuntu.

This team is a work-in-progress and is definately not something rigid or set in stone. It should, first and foremost, be relaxed and fun! Most of us are working for a living in one form or another and some may have families. I cannot overlook my obligations and I am not about to demand anybody else overlook their obligations!

Past Meetings

Past meeting schedule and links to notes on what is talked about can be found in the [wiki:ConnecticutTeam/PastMeetings Past Meetings] page.

Contact

The following are some of the sites related to the Connecticut Local Team.

Projects

We now have a new page to keep track of projects and volunteers! Hop over to the [wiki:ConnecticutTeam/Projects Projects Page] and see where you can help!

  • All work and no play makes casper a boring ghost

Working with this team should be fun, and enjoyable. Heaven knows nobody really wants to take on a drab, dull and boring job and what's the real use in that?

Currently in the [wiki:ConnecticutTeam/Projects Projects page] are the following projects:

  1. Scheduled Meetings
  2. Mailing List
  3. Meet and Greet
  4. Online Calendar
  5. Team Logo

A fair amount of time is being taken up trying to figure "how" things work, and then cleaning up the implementation from the experimenting. Anybody with experience with or are willing to oversee any aspect of the team, please feel free to contact me!

Activity Ideas

The group is still fledgling, but it appears some members of the Team will be meeting face-to-face in the future and a number of us have voiced the desire of having a large Team-wide meeting sometime soon.

Some other quick ideas include

  • Demonstration at a computer club
  • Adult Education Classes (and pass out free, professional looking Ubuntu CDs!)
  • Participating in a computer club's meetings (even non-Linux groups as an informational talk)
  • Demonstrating to a school, nursery, preschool, etc. the benefits of [http://www.edubuntu.org Edubuntu]

  • Install-fests

Membership

Until we have the mailing list set up, the best ways to keep in contact include the Launchpad Membership ([https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-connecticut/+join/+login join]), keeping tabs on the [http://connecticut.ubuntuforums.org Connecticut Team Forum] and catching us when we are meeting in IRC (FreeNode's #ubuntu-connecticut)

Introduce yourself, and where you are in Connecticut, or any other connection (went to school here, grew up here, have friends/family here, etc.). While the focus on the Team is on Connecticut, that doesn't mean people from other places are not welcomed as well. The only foreseeable issue is when people are referencing towns and parts of the state.
