The docteam is still very small, and has a big job to do. New contributors and members are always welcome. People are needed mostly for writing and editing, but there are many other ways of making a useful contribution. For example, simply pointing out errors (such as typos, grammar and spelling, and technical errors) is an extremely useful way to help. Welcome to the Ubuntu Documentation Team home page, the starting point for those interested in improving Ubuntu documentation.

= How to Contribute = The Documentation Team takes care of official documentation for both the Desktop and Server editions of Ubuntu. It also contributes to the Community Help Wiki, with responsibility for each of these documentation sets devolving upon the sub-team which shares its name. Besides contributing text to the official documentation and the wiki via the Contributors team, each has its own administrative personnel: the Committers team for official docs and the Wiki Administrators team for the help wiki. See Documentation Team organization for more information on this hierarchy structure.

Great! You want to help. All of the work produced by the Ubuntu Documentation team is released under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License (CC BY-SA 3.0).

Don't worry if you don't know any of our tools yet. You can make useful contributions before learning how to use the tools. The easiest way to help is to take a look at our current works in progress on the DocteamProjects wiki page. DocteamProjects contains links to HTML previews of our work. The previews are updated regularly, and in most cases will only be a day or so out of date. When you find errors in these documents, point them out to us either on IRC on the [:DocteamCommunications:#ubuntu-doc channel], or on our [:DocteamCommunications:mailing list]. If you write a section for us, then send it to the mailing list. We will review your changes and additions, implement them, and give positive feedback. Feel free to get in touch with the team directly using the 'Contact us' link above with any questions or feedback you may have.
Line 13: Line 15:
You can also work directly on the Doc'Book sources. Read-only access to the docteam's repository is available at https://docteam.ubuntu.com/repos. Once you have emailed a few patches to the mailing list, you will be given an account with direct read-write access to the repository. <<BR>>
