What I Do
I'm brazilian, 22 y, PhD physics student that uses Ubuntu to find and explain structures on planetary rings (firt Saturn's F-Ring and now Uranus' rings).
What Ubuntu did for me
Since my master course, Ubuntu is my main OS, I use it to do my work, since writing numerical codes until run and analise data. It's a trustworthy platform and my work would be almost impossible to do another way. And I met incredible people that share some through Ubuntu Community, people that share same ideias and also watch Lost!!
What I did for Ubuntu
I started my contrubution doing some translations with help of my friend OgMaciel, but now I'm not a so active contributor.
I helped to create and organize the Brazilian Documetation Team and since then most of my job is a 'background' job. For example: with RafaelProenca I wrote the [http://wiki.ubuntu-br.org/TimeDeDocumentacao/GuiaWiki Guia Wiki] (wiki guide), a document that explains all the steps from creating a wiki account until good pratices when writing a documentation.
I also wrote [http://wiki.ubuntu-br.org/TimeDeDocumentacao/GuiaWiki/AjudaNaEdicao?action=fullsearch&context=180&value=rafaelsfair&fullsearch=Text sereval wikipages] and the [http://wiki.ubuntu-br.org/CienciaNoUbuntu Ciencia No Ubuntu], a guide explaning how to install some scientific softwares.
What I do for Ubuntu
- I'm one of the administrator of the Ubuntu Brazilian Documentation team. I'm always trying to bring new people to help the team to grow (with quantity and quality).
I'm an author on planets [http://planeta.ubuntu-br.org Ubuntu-BR] ([http://planeta.ubuntubrasil.org/author/43 my posts]) and [http://planeta.gnulinuxbrasil.org Gnu Linux Brasil]
- Document manager of the APTonCD project
- Help people to migrate from proprietary platafor to open source (even my thesis advisor!)
What I plan to do for Ubuntu
- Contribute to the growth of the documentation team
- Try to migrate even more machines at my university to open source systems
- Increase the divulgation of the Ubuntu and our work to make it always easier
