Dell Latitude E6510

Lucid had troubles with xserver

Fix:

Full HD-Display & nvidia-card: Before installing proprietary nvidia driver screen remains blank. This is due to the standard nouveau-driver unable to initialize screen resolution.

At boot menu from live-cd:

  • "F6"
  • "Esc"
  • add "nouveau.modeset=0" to the end of boot line.

Boot with 800x600 resolution.

Install ubuntu.

At first reboot:

  • During boot hold down the shift key to get to the grub menu.
  • "e"
  • add "nouveau.modeset=0" at end of boot line (after quiet splash)

Install proprietary nvidia-driver.

Since Maverick alpha 2 xserver is running

Touchpad is recognized as PS/2-mouse. Therefore there is no scrolling. The touchpad is very sensitive which leads to many inadvertent clicks.
