Introduction

We’re preparing Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS, the Trusty Tahr, for distribution in 17th of April 2014. With this final Beta (Beta 2) release, you can see what we are trying out in preparation for our next stable version. We have some interesting things happening, so read on for highlights and information.

NOTE: This is a Beta 2 Release. Ubuntu GNOME Beta Releases are NOT recommended for:

  • Regular users who are not aware of pre-release issues
  • Anyone who needs a stable system
  • Anyone uncomfortable running a possibly frequently broken system
  • Anyone in a production environment with data or workflows that need to be reliable

Ubuntu GNOME Beta Releases are recommended for:

  • Regular users who want to help us test by finding, reporting, and/or fixing bugs
  • Ubuntu GNOME developers

Getting Ubuntu GNOME Trusty Tahr (14.04) Beta 2

Download a Disk Image

Beta 2 Highlights

Software Updates

  • Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 is going to be an LTS release supported for 3 years.

  • Gnome-shell 3.10 is now included.
  • Many apps have now been updated to GNOME 3.10.
  • gnome-weather, gnome-maps, gnome-photos and gnome-music are all available to install from the archives
  • GNOME Classic session is included. To try it, choose it from the Sessions option on the login screen.

Known Problems

Ubuntu GNOME Desktop

  • nvidia-prime won't work when using gdm (1262068)

  • gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in g_thread_abort() (1284017)

  • Can't select which drive to resize when using "install alongside" in Trusty (1262824)

  • GDM does not work in multiple displays in nvidia driver (nvidia-331) (trusty) (optimus laptop) (1297630)

  • Gnome-shell desktop is just a white blank screen after switching users (1297383)

Development of Ubuntu Gnome 14.04, the Trusty Tahr is ongoing and bugs are fixed every day. Before reporting bugs, please ensure your system is up to date and you're installing the latest build. For verifying installation related bugs, updated disk images are available from Daily bootable images for standard PCs/laptops/netbooks.
