This week's Hug Day will focus on cupsys! The Common Unix Printing System is what controls printing in Ubuntu, a fairly necessary task of any desktop machine.
After you have triaged or fixed a bug put your name in the last column and set the row's background to green by adding lightgreen in the first cell of the column after rowbgcolor=. This will let people know that the bug in that row has been hugged.
5-a-day-ing
During hug days you can also do 5-A-Day for this one you can do the following in order to tag your work on the hug day:
- 5-a-day --add-tag hugday-20081016
- Add bugs to 5-a-day as usual
- And when done with hug day run: 5-a-day --remove-tag hugday-20081016
Stock Responses
If you have a bit if time, it would be helpful to attach the cupsys log: This is a file where CUPSYS writes information about what it is doing. Almost all printing problems can be diagnosed from the error log, so it is the first place to look to start solving problems. To be useful, you must change the logging level: 1.Select "System" -> "Administration" -> "Printing" in the main menu of your desktop. The printer setup tool system-config-printer will open. Select "Server Settings" in the list on the left. Then check the check box "Save debugging information for troubleshooting" and click "Apply". 2. In /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, find the line "LogLevel ..."; change it to" LogLevel debug"; save. 3. 'sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart' 4. Try to print something. 5. Add /var/log/cups/error_log as an attachment to the bug report.

Do you take into account that cupsys was renamed to cups in the Intrepid release cycle? This means the figures of "cupsys" and "cups" bugs have to get summed up. For triagers it means that everything which is still valid in Intrepid needs to be moved to "cups". In addition, triagers should know that the printing subsystem consists of many packages, not only cups, but also ghostscript, foomatic-*, hplip, gutenprint, splix, system-config-printer, ... Users do not know that and assign printing-related bug reports to cups/cupsys or system-config-printer in most cases. Triagers should move these to the correct packages. Till
WRT the new package name, any bugs reported to cupsys affecting Intrepid and beyond should be moved to cups but all others should remain under cupsys.
