GCI [Google Code-In] Wrap-up
Nicholas Skaggs writes a wrap-up where he announces that 215 students finished more than 500 tasks in the Google Code-In (GCI) 2015 for Ubuntu. He thanks the students and their mentors and discloses the winners' names, Daniyaal Rasheed and Matthew Allen, as well as the finalists, Evan McIntire, Girish Rawat and Malena Vasquez Currie.

Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 LTS Release Party
MajB of the Arizona LoCo team writes about the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 Long Term Support release and says, “The release of a new LTS versions means many things to many people but it means PARTY TIME to me.” He goes on to propose several dates in April and May to the team for a release party in Phoenix and extends a special invitation to community members who “do not normally travel to the Phoenix metropolitan area to attend events.”

Didier Roche: Ubuntu Make 16.02 brings Nodejs, Lighttable IDE, Spring Tools Suite and JetBrains' Datagrip
Didier Roche announces the latest release of Ubuntu Make, including support for nodeJS and the LightTable IDE, as well as Eclipse-based Spring Tools Suite, and the DataGrip IDE for database administration and SQL development. Simultaneously, he points out a point release to fix Visual Studio Code. He also describes the particular members of the community responsible for these contributions.
Nicholas Skaggs: Prepping for a Summer of Code!
Nicholas Skaggs explains Ubuntu has applied to participate in Google Summer of Code, a summer event uniting university students and open-source organizations to produce project ideas from the organization provided through mentoring. He invites mentors to sign up and provide ideas, and he offers resources for more information.
He continues on, stating that the GSOC takes place between May and August, so if you have the skills and time, please consider putting your name forward (to mentor). Project ideas may be submitted by Feb 19, and friends may assist in the mentoring to reduce workload.

GNOME Software Gets Comment and Rating Support with Help from Ubuntu Dev
Silviu Stahie informs us that GNOME Software is finally accepting reviews and votes for applications. The work was completed with the help of Ubuntu developer Robert Ancell. Canonical intends to replace Ubuntu Software Center with GNOME Software and wants to feature it in Ubuntu 16.04.
Latest Mesa Update Lands In Ubuntu 16.04, Enables OpenGL 4.1 With LLVM 3.8
Michael Larabel of Phoronix writes that Mesa 11.1.2 is in the process of landing for Ubuntu 16.04 and that this version is built against LLVM 3.8. LLVM 3.8 enables OpenGL 4.1 support.
