Canonical Design Team: How we introduced Scrum to the Web Team
Magdalena Mirowicz explains how the Ubuntu web development team adjusted their project delivery methodology as they adopted the Scrum project framework. She also elaborates upon the advantages and disadvantages that are present within the framework while detailing the team’s experience with it.

Scarlett Clark: Kubuntu: Debian: KDE: Outreachy! Yay! Upcoming changes
Scarlett Clark tells us that she'll be working on Debian reproducible builds from May 20th, having been approved to participate in (Gnome's) Outreachy program. She thanks her supporters and writes that she plans on looking for a open source job when her Outreachy work ends.

Kubuntu: Kubuntu Party 3
The Kubuntu team shares an open invitation to the third Kubuntu Party, with the event unschedule focused on “Making Friends and Having Fun!” The event will occur online over the course of 3 hours on May 20th, “from 20:00 until about 23:00, with a 30 minute overrun to close everything down.” Of the event itself, they write “It is a very loose format of welcoming guests, and getting them involved in the conversation, and in particular focusing on open questions that invite them to introduce their own topics, we guarantee you’ll feel right at home.”

Kubuntu: Kubuntu Dojo – Ninja developer training
The Kubuntu team invites any interested developers to join them in the Kubuntu Dojo for a free lesson in software packaging. The event will be held at 18:00 UTC on May 26th in the Kubuntu conference server.

Ubuntu App Developer Blog: New PageHeader.subtitle with framework 15.04.5 in OTA-11
Christain Dywan informs us that framework 15.04.5 for OTA 11 is already available to developers. He writes, “Now you can use the new subtitle property with PageHeader which complements the existing title and shows a smaller label at the bottom of the header.” And goes on to give examples.

Michael Hall: Dogfooding Unity 8
At the Ubuntu Online Summit Daniel Holbach suggested a "10 day challenge" or to use only the Unity 8 desktop. Michael Hall accepted the challenge. In this blog post Michael tells us what he did to load the Unity 8 desktop on his hardware, the applications and commands needed to get it working for his own needs, and his findings regarding what works and what doesn't. The post was written during day 3 of the 10 day challenge.

Canonical Design Team: App design guide to go live (bit by bit)
Steph Wilson reminds us that new app design guidelines will be rolling out in the coming months. The guidelines help communicate the design practices and philosophy to keep Ubuntu consistent & in attempt to make it easier for developers. As for what’s in store, he shares and gives a sneak peak: “We are going to start releasing parts of the Building Blocks section first, which contains all the components you need to start building your application.”

Zygmunt Krynicki: snapd updated to 2.0.3
Zygmunt Krynicki reports that Ubuntu 16.04 has been updated with a new release of snapd (2.0.3). Zygmunt provides the changelog for the new micro release.

José Antonio Rey: Ubuntu’s back at OSCON this year!
José Antonio Rey lets us know that Ubuntu will be at OSCON in Austin, Texas as an exhibitor this year. He also lists some of the things available for you to see and try out. The conference starts today (Monday, May 16th) through the Expo Hall opens on Tuesday night. He encourages Ubuntu fans to “drop by and say hi.”

Robert Ancell from the Ubuntu SDK team shows us how to develop apps for the Ubuntu Phone without having to use the SDK. He gives step-by-step instructions of how to compile his example app, how he tests it, and a link to download his example code.

Another Ubuntu Hackathon, with a blend of #convergence
April Wang writes that another 32 hour hackathon focused on Ubuntu on mobile took place in China, with 7 games being ported and a few scopes being created. She shares that on the scope side they created Gaode Map and Ubuner(is like Uber and uses the Uber API), which can help getting around. Cheng Lu wrote a Tuner application to help tune Penk Chen’s 3D printed Ukulele.

Founder of Ubuntu Linux: No Back Doors; No Weakening of Encryption
C. Mitchell Shaw writes that Mark Shuttleworth has affirmed Ubuntu’s commitment to security by stating that the distribution will never have built in back doors or weakened encryption. Writing of the virtues of open source, he concludes “There would simply be no way for a backdoor to be hidden in the source code, since millions of eyes are on it.”
BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition review: Desktop-mobile convergence, up to a point
Terry Relph-Knight of ZDNet provides his review of the recently released Aquaris M10 Ubuntu edition tablet, the first Ubuntu tablet to offer desktop-mobile convergence. He concludes that although the device will likely only garner interest from diehard Ubuntu fans and determined early adopters in its current state due to software issues, these issues may be easily rectified in the near future.

Scott Gilbertson calls 16.04 "the most exciting release Canonical has put out in recent memory" as he highlights some of 16.04's big changes, including the new GNOME software store, snaps, and ZFS.

Ubuntu 16.10: What To Expect from Unity 7
During the planning for 16.10 at the Ubuntu Online Summit it was announced that Unity 8 / Mir will not be default. Unity 8 still has it’s share of rough edges to get smooth out before being pushed to millions of Ubuntu machines.

Unity 8 and Snaps Are the Future of the Ubuntu Desktop, After Ubuntu 16.10
Planning are being made with snaps being used on Ubuntu a lot more, from major applications only being in snap format to change deb installed applications into snaps during an upgrade. Unity 7 will also just receive OEM work and critical/major bug fixed.
Unity 8 suffers another delay (and how to solve this issue)
Jack Wallen of Tech Republic proposes two solutions to the delays of Unity: migrate all of their desktop developers to Unity 8 or delay the release of Ubuntu. He goes in depth on both these ideas, and concludes “Unity 8 will be worth the wait.”
