Getting Started Checklist

The Basics

1. Join the Ubuntu-X Swat Team in launchpad

2. Join the ubuntu-x mailing list (low traffic)

3. Join (optionally) the ubuntu-x-swat@ list for bug traffic (extremely HIGH traffic - use e-mail filters)
4. Join #ubuntu-x on irc.freenode.net
5. Add yourself to the Ubuntu-X Hardware list (below)
6. Update your system to latest Ubuntu

   • Stable Updates: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

   • Unstable Bleeding-Edge: https://edge.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

Ubuntu-X Bug Triagers

1. Read Bugs/Status

2. Review the Ubuntu-X Debugging Guide

3. Review the packages Ubuntu-X maintains and pick your initial area of focus

4. Work towards gaining Ubuntu Bug Control membership

Ubuntu-X Packagers

1. Get an account on freedesktop, our main upstream

2. Establish an Xorg build environment using pbuilder

3. Learn how to Build debs of X drivers

4. Learn the Ubuntu-X team's use of Git for version control

5. Learn Debian packaging

6. Work towards gaining MOTU membership
