Since installing Ubuntu I have become completely hooked. I never thought any OS would make me leave my beloved OS for the last 10 years, the mac OS. After installing Ubuntu on an old Toshiba that was lying around the office I instantly knew I was on to something. Over the next month I used my mac less and less and for the first time in my life I bought a PC. I now use Ubuntu full-time, except for at work, and I have never looked back. I find myself completely in amazment that I had not tried Linux sooner. So I have joined my Loco and have spent many hours trying to educate people on the beauty of Linux and Ubuntu. I keep saying to myself "If only people knew". In addition to the Loco I also triage bugs, work on icons, and have been learning all about making themes. I come from a Graphic Design background so I feel this is where I can contribute the most. However I have been learning some of the languages used in Linux. I am currently learning Python and plan to continue on after that and learn C. I then hope I can contribute to Ubuntu more thoroughly. Since installing Ubuntu I have become completely hooked. About Me

Since installing Ubuntu I have become completely hooked. I never thought any OS would make me leave my beloved OS of 10 years, the mac OS. After installing Ubuntu on an old Toshiba that was lying around the office I instantly knew I was on to something. Ubuntu community contributions

Ubuntu Team Coordinator for the Oklahoma Loco
AS team coordinator I am responsible for the well being of the Oklahoma LoCo. I welcome new members and get them acquainted with the tools our LoCo uses. This includes a Google Apps account I created for our team for us to share documents and calendars. I work to keep up the momentum of the team by planning events and keeping a dialogue on the mailing list. I publish a monthly/bi-monthly newsletter about the team and the ubuntu community as a whole to keep members informed and excited about the community. The current goal of the LoCo is to increase membership.

Ubuntu Member of the Ubuntu Beginners Team
As a member of the Beginners Team it is my responsibility to help new users and even intermediate users have a pleasurable experience with Ubuntu. We take the time to educate users whether one on one in #ubuntu-beginners-help, on the Ubuntu Community Forum, or developing materials for the Community Wiki. I also internally within the team mentor individuals interested in joining the Beginners Team.

Ubuntu Participate twice a month in a Tulsa local meetup and Ubuntu demo.
Oklahoma Loco members who live in Tulsa are invited out for this informal get together where we share our ideas and experiences about Ubuntu. We set up a computer with Ubuntu for coffee house patrons to use. As the customers use the computer to surf the internet we take the time to educate them on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu Maintain the "Best of Ubuntu Community Forum Tutorials" project
Boucft is an Ubuntu package of relevant tutorials taken from the Ubuntu Community Forum. These tutorials and how-to's are converted to DocBook format and centrally archived to give users another avenue to locate information produced on the Community Forum.

Ubuntu Bug Triage stats for December 2008: duanedesign #9 in the last 30 days with 86 bugs
I regularly triage bugs on Launchpad. Dec. '08 was my record month for bug triage.

Ubuntu Launchpad karma 1851
In addition to triaging bugs I also help out in the Answer section of Launchpad.

Ubuntu (15) Ubuntu CD's handed out

Ubuntu (142) postings on Ubuntu Forum
The forums were a wonderful tool when I first started, and still are. I have a special place in my heart for the forums and contribute whenever possible.

Ubuntu Ubuntu blog: okiebuntu
I maintain a blog that i update regularly with support solutions that come up in #ubuntu-beginners-help. Additionally I post a lot of how-to and tutorials to help add to the impressive online body of Ubuntu support.

Ubuntu Provide support in #ubuntu-beginners-help
I love spending time in the BT help channel giving support. I spend several hours each week in the channel helping people with a wide range of problems.

Testimonials

I think that Duane has been making a significant effort to boost our LoCo participation and coordinate meetings, events and functions.
I really haven't heard from our Team staff members so I'd like to nominate Duane Hinnen to be (minimum) our Team Coordinator and recognized for efforts he's made to motivate and coordinate our team.
Great job. We really appreciate the work you've done Duane.
Regards,
Travis Northrup

I second that.

I support Duane's application for Ubuntu Membership totally and unequivocally. Duane's passion and dedication to Ubuntu is not only wholly obvious to anyone fortunate enough to work with him, but has shown sustained and unending commitment. His time in the Ubuntu Forum Beginners Team has already made an impact in these short months. My short time with Duane has been nothing but positive, and I look forward to working together in the future. I am honored to say that I support his induction as an Ubuntu Member.
