(10:07:01 AM) robbiew: any questions for QA
(10:07:03 AM) fader_: Oh, FYI I suspect the "1 failed" on the laptops to be a test issue rather than a distro issue, but we're looking into it

(10:07:43 AM) robbiew: [TOPIC] Security
(10:07:44 AM) MootBot: New Topic: Security
(10:07:48 AM) jdstrand: hi
(10:07:58 AM) jdstrand: [LINK] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/ReleaseStatus/Maverick
(10:07:59 AM) MootBot: LINK received: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/ReleaseStatus/Maverick
(10:08:07 AM) jdstrand: I have one task from one milestoned blueprint for Alpha-3: merging libvirt. I will do this along with updates I am performing for other releases, which I am currently working on. Blueprints for the cycle are slipping due to high/complicated security update load. The team postponed some last week and will discuss this more at the upcoming sprint.
(10:08:08 AM) cjwatson: fader_: 602273 is in my queue but wasn't as easy as I'd hoped at first glance
(10:08:25 AM) fader_: cjwatson: Ack, not trying to pressure anyone unduly, just noting :)
(10:08:48 AM) jdstrand: mdeslaur is continuing to make progress on security-m-tls-renegotiation-updates, our last remaining essential blueprint.
(10:09:10 AM) jdstrand: The firefox 3.6 transition should be completed next week: the TCK testing is complete, the server team completed tomcat testing and started testing eucalyptus (thanks ttx and kirkland)
(10:09:35 AM) jdstrand: (and sbeattie for TCK testing, and doko for fixes, and too many other :)
(10:09:42 AM) robbiew: heh
(10:09:54 AM) jdstrand: As for milestoned bugs, we have bug #599450, which is listed as a kernel bug, but the kernel is doing the right thing. The kernel and security teams have rough consensus that the fix is to adjust the profiles and/or abstractions to account for the kernel change. There are other potential options, and we plan to discuss them early next week and implement the fix during next week.
(10:09:56 AM) ubottu: Launchpad bug 599450 in linux (Ubuntu Maverick) "[apparmor] getattr handled incorrectly in 2.6.35-6.7" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/599450
(10:10:10 AM) robbiew: ack
(10:10:22 AM) jdstrand: that's it from me
(10:10:38 AM) ScottK: +1 for the security team for fixing KDE backtraces this week
(10:10:50 AM) jdstrand: yes
(10:11:07 AM) ScottK: That's a huge deal for Kubuntu to have that working again
(10:11:07 AM) ***robbiew updates agenda to move bug 599450 under security
(10:11:10 AM) ubottu: Launchpad bug 599450 in linux (Ubuntu Maverick) "[apparmor] getattr handled incorrectly in 2.6.35-6.7" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/599450
(10:11:11 AM) jdstrand: kees has been working on the yama/ptrace stuff, trying to make sure all the corner cases are done
(10:11:35 AM) robbiew: any questions for Security?
(10:11:44 AM) jdstrand: robbiew: there is a chance that there is a kernel component to the fix, but we will know more next week
(10:11:49 AM) robbiew: sure
(10:12:10 AM) robbiew: gives you all something in your agenda section anyway :P
(10:12:15 AM) robbiew: thnx jdstrand

(10:12:39 AM) ogasawara: heh
(10:12:41 AM) ogasawara: On the items noted in the agenda, spec status is as follows:
(10:12:48 AM) ogasawara: * kernel-maverick-apparmor: The latest upstream submission was posted yesterday. Development is on going and improvements to file, capability, network, resource usage and ipc mediation are planned. However, With this submission we believe AppArmor is ready for inclusion into the mainline kernel.
(10:13:00 AM) ogasawara: * kernel-maverick-pv-ops-ec2-kernel: Received confirmation from Amazon contacts that pv-ops based kernels should work in EC2 and that the xsave hypercall needs to be disabled or there will be issues with booting kernels. jjohansen has built a test kernel and should have results shortly.
(10:13:13 AM) ogasawara: Bug status is as follows:
(10:13:18 AM) ogasawara: Bug 591941
(10:13:19 AM) ubottu: Launchpad bug 591941 in linux (Ubuntu Maverick) "SDHC card not recognized" [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/591941
(10:13:29 AM) ogasawara: mpoirier is working this issue with TI but there is still no resolution currently.
(10:13:29 AM) ogasawara: Bug 595489
(10:13:30 AM) ubottu: Launchpad bug 595489 in linux (Ubuntu Maverick) "lvm snapshot causes deadlock in 2.6.35" [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/595489
(10:13:35 AM) ogasawara: A patch has been posted upstream but not yet accepted.
(10:13:40 AM) ogasawara: Bug 597387
(10:13:41 AM) ubottu: Launchpad bug 597387 in Ubuntu Maverick "pv-ops kernel only works in 3 or 4 zones in EC2" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/597387
(10:13:47 AM) ogasawara: Testing currently underway (See spec notes above).
(10:13:53 AM) ogasawara: Bug 599450
(10:13:54 AM) ubottu: Launchpad bug 599450 in linux (Ubuntu Maverick) "[apparmor] getattr handled incorrectly in 2.6.35-6.7" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/599450
(10:13:58 AM) ogasawara: See security team notes above.
(10:14:08 AM) ogasawara: As a general status, we've rebased to 2.6.35-rc5 and uploaded. We're also in the process of updating aufs2 and plan to upload today. We are above the trend line in our Alpha3 burndown chart but below the trend line overall. The remaining Alpha3 work items are not release critical.
(10:14:22 AM) ogasawara: Questions?
(10:14:52 AM) robbiew: \o/ on apparmor in mainline
ogasawara ogra Omahn oubiwann
(10:15:22 AM) robbiew: thnx ogasawara
(10:15:32 AM) robbiew: [TOPIC] Foundations
(10:15:33 AM) MootBot: New Topic: Foundations
(10:16:07 AM) robbiew: cjwatson: ready when you are ;)
(10:16:18 AM) cjwatson: Lots to do at the sprint; still behind our work item line, although we've made some progress and deferred some chunks of work (notably, we are no longer planning to shift the CDs to GRUB this cycle, although will continue with the work required to do so later).
(10:16:22 AM) cjwatson: Good things this week: chunks of buy-something progress, installer-redesign (though not yet reflected in work item statuses), movement on btrfs-support licensing blocker, most invasive parts of grub2-boot-framebuffer landed, nearly there with package-culling (13 merges to go)
(10:16:27 AM) cjwatson: Specific sprint targets for next week include: parallel debconf infrastructure for installer-redesign; land Python 2.7; sort out live UEC builds; 10.04.1 LTS point release preparation
(10:16:31 AM) cjwatson: We have four milestoned bugs, mostly fairly shallow.
(10:16:34 AM) cjwatson: For full details:
(10:16:36 AM) cjwatson: [LINK] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FoundationsTeam/ReleaseStatus/Maverick
(10:16:37 AM) MootBot: LINK received: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FoundationsTeam/ReleaseStatus/Maverick
(10:17:51 AM) ScottK: Is land Python 2.7 decided? I've been getting the build failure mails for the rebuild test and there are a lot of them.
(10:18:51 AM) cjwatson: ah, well in this case I was just reporting from barry
(10:19:13 AM) doko: ScottK: no, but the test results are hosed due to the bad pkgbinarymagler
(10:19:13 AM) cjwatson: "Get Python 2.7 as supported version" is the note from our sprint agenda
(10:19:31 AM) ScottK: doko: Even excluding those, it seems like it was a lot.
(10:20:18 AM) cjwatson: I'll ask barry about that item first thing on Monday
(10:20:32 AM) robbiew: doko: any progress on completing work items for http://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/foundations-m-686-compile ?
apachelogger apw
(10:20:56 AM) robbiew: apw is sending me hate mail about it
(10:20:57 AM) robbiew: :P
(10:21:08 AM) doko: heh, yes, opening the page in edit mode this morning ...
(10:21:27 AM) robbiew: thnx!
(10:21:41 AM) doko: robbiew: did apw build a test kernel?
(10:21:59 AM) apw: doko, hrm did i miss a request for that?
(10:22:06 AM) robbiew: lol
(10:22:09 AM) apw: i haven't built any specific ones as yet
(10:22:43 AM) robbiew: seems you two should sync up early next week
(10:22:44 AM) doko: apw: s/586/686/ && make
(10:23:03 AM) apw: doko, i thought it was more complex than that, that there was another requirement, cmov or somethign
(10:23:19 AM) apw: i recall we were waiting for a write up of what the specific lower level now was
(10:23:27 AM) apw: and i think we've not done more than that at this time
(10:23:38 AM) apw: perhaps we can get together early next week and sort it out if you are in parague
(10:23:44 AM) doko: well, you were not waiting to drop the i386 flavour ...
(10:24:52 AM) apw: yep, i386 was definatly useless based on the understanding we had, but to change generic we did want to know the specific request
(10:25:11 AM) apw: as sadly noone from kernel was at the session at UDS where it was decided
(10:26:22 AM) ScottK: Any status on getting fixes from the Linaro toolchain into Maverick? Apparently that'll fix qt4-x11 on armel.
(10:26:44 AM) ScottK: (it built on the rebuild test doko did for that)
(10:28:05 AM) doko: apw: it should be safe to use the flags that the compiler passes by default (which are -march=i686 -mtune=generic)
(10:28:41 AM) robbiew: okay...we need to move on...this conversation can take place in #ubuntu-kernel or in person next week ;)
(10:28:42 AM) jdstrand left the room (quit: Remote host closed the connection).
(10:28:42 AM) apw: doko, those won't get the right kernle options set in the kernel config
(10:29:01 AM) apw: ack
(10:29:04 AM) robbiew: anything *else* for Foundations?
(10:29:28 AM) ScottK: robbiew: Just the toolchain question.
(10:29:55 AM) jdstrand [~jamie@ubuntu/member/jdstrand] entered the room.
(10:30:19 AM) robbiew: doko: ? (10:26:22 AM) ScottK: Any status on getting fixes from the Linaro toolchain into Maverick? Apparently that'll fix qt4-x11 on armel.
(10:31:25 AM) doko: robbiew: linaro is still evaluating the armel build failures.
(10:31:41 AM) doko: lets discuss this on Monday
(10:31:48 AM) robbiew: doko: ack
(10:31:53 AM) ScottK: doko: That doesn't really help me much
(10:32:19 AM) robbiew: [ACTION] robbie to send ScottK an update next Tuesday
(10:32:20 AM) MootBot: ACTION received: robbie to send ScottK an update next Tuesday
(10:32:24 AM) robbiew: ScottK: ;)
(10:32:32 AM) ScottK: robbiew: Thanks. Just was I was about to ask.

(10:37:54 AM) ttx: So we are globally late...
(10:38:01 AM) ttx: Vacation/conferences/sprint has taken (or will take) a fair share of resources, so some of the Low priority specs have already been rescoped or are expected to be dropped. At this point, server-maverick-apport-hooks has been rescoped as a community effort, and the remaining work items in server-maverick-cloud-utils are expected to be dropped.
(10:38:21 AM) ttx: we'll revisit everything early next week
(10:38:32 AM) cjwatson: uec-liveusb> I added a sprint agenda item for me to talk with kirkland on this
(10:39:00 AM) kirkland: cjwatson: fwiw, I'm reconsidering that one; now that I have learned the magic of live-helper
(10:39:15 AM) cjwatson: ok, up to you, I certainly won't *object* if it's not on cdimage
(10:39:16 AM) ttx: Maverick Bugs affecting server, in other teams:
(10:39:25 AM) ttx: I just wanted to raise Bug 563916 - [details.so] No prompt for [S]kip or [M]anual recovery on server boot
(10:39:27 AM) ubottu: Launchpad bug 563916 in plymouth (Ubuntu Lucid) "[details.so] No prompt for [S]kip or [M]anual recovery on server boot" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/563916
(10:39:33 AM) ttx: it has apparently a patch posted now
(10:39:41 AM) ttx: and affects maverick, but also 10.04.1
(10:39:50 AM) ttx: it could use some love.
(10:40:22 AM) ***cjwatson has to go out, but has loaded that bug for future inspection
(10:40:24 AM) ttx: Looking at the burndown chart, we are now headed in the right direction, but definitely with a late start
(10:41:18 AM) ttx: questions ?
(10:42:48 AM) robbiew: thnx ttx

(10:43:11 AM) seb128: We had progresses on the software-center, empathy indicator and oneconf specs mostly this week. We are still behind the on alpha3 workitems but we should catch up during the sprint (we can postpone some specs to next cycle if required)

(10:43:16 AM) seb128:
(10:43:18 AM) seb128: GNOME is still going through lot of changes for GNOME3. Gsettings and dconf (new gconf equivalent system for GNOME) are on the default install now, watch out for issues with those and better to catch bugs before half the desktop is using it. We will try get the GTK2 updated and start the work on GTK3 next week and should postpone the gobject introspection updates until the new abi stabilize (we try to work with Debian on those changes as well
(10:43:20 AM) seb128: ).
(10:43:26 AM) seb128:
(10:43:27 AM) seb128: No maverick rc bugs out of build issues, still some of those are not fixed yet but we aim at getting them done by the end of next week
(10:43:34 AM) seb128:
(10:43:48 AM) seb128: I would also point that the number of buildds starts being an issue
(10:44:03 AM) seb128: the archive builds are delay often by a day when there is a firefox security update or an openjdk upload
(10:44:10 AM) seb128: which is every second day nowadays
(10:44:24 AM) seb128: delay -> delayed
(10:44:31 AM) seb128:
(10:44:43 AM) seb128: that's it from me out of questions ;-)
(10:44:55 AM) seb128: (not sure if Riddell is around or ScottK wants to do a kubuntu update)
(10:45:02 AM) ***ScottK will
(10:45:16 AM) ScottK: All going well except we're dead on armel
(10:45:40 AM) ScottK: plasma-widget-menubar MIR was approved today, so we're on track to get that in for netbook.
(10:45:54 AM) ScottK: we've combined desktop and netbook into one ISO.
(10:46:08 AM) ScottK: Still have a bit of cleanup, but that's less to test/manage
(10:46:33 AM) ScottK: I'm a bit concerned over pushback I got this week about building armel images for Kubuntu.
(10:47:04 AM) ScottK: We've built one since that architecture has been around and I had expected it to continue.
(10:47:26 AM) ScottK: The mobile work we're doing is almost entirely aimed at armel.
(10:47:43 AM) ScottK: KDE 4.4.92 is packaged and built, so we're on track with upstream.
(10:47:45 AM) ScottK: That's it.
(10:48:49 AM) robbiew: thnx ScottK
(10:48:55 AM) robbiew: any questions for Desktop?

(10:49:40 AM) njpatel: Working on indicators and Unity as per usual
(10:49:58 AM) njpatel: appmenu indicator is progressing, though we've got a bug that causes performance issues
(10:50:10 AM) njpatel: we're looking into it, next week will help
(10:50:20 AM) njpatel: soundmenu is getting better UI, more features
(10:50:37 AM) njpatel: -network, -datetime, -me have pretty much stalled due to holidays
(10:50:41 AM) njpatel:
(10:50:51 AM) njpatel: Unity has got global search, appindicators integration
(10:51:01 AM) njpatel: sub-menu bug was fixed, so we can drop the double menus
(10:51:14 AM) njpatel: we are looking into power-usage
(10:51:26 AM) njpatel: Mutter seems to be somewhat of a resource hog, so we need to fix that
(10:51:52 AM) njpatel: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtscriptgenerator/+bug/600943
(10:51:55 AM) njpatel: has been updated

(10:52:33 AM) njpatel: agateau spoke to some qt guys and added some info to the bug
(10:52:39 AM) njpatel: Alright, i think that's it
(10:53:18 AM) njpatel: Oh, I tried to update the blueprints that I could, so the workitem graph thing updates

(10:58:21 AM) robbiew: ScottK anything to report?
(10:58:40 AM) ScottK: Yes
(10:58:54 AM) robbiew: the stage is yours :)
(10:59:01 AM) ScottK: The buildd backlogs for the last week or two are starting to worry me.
(10:59:35 AM) ScottK: I know it will catch up eventually, but in the mean time there is a lot of potential for archive skew problems in Universe.
(11:00:08 AM) ScottK: I'm assuming the recent spate of Mozilla security stuff will stop eventually.
(11:01:01 AM) ScottK: Python 2.7 worries me as there were a lot of build failures in the rebuild test, it's getting late in the cycle to introduce major new stuff like that and there's not a lot of currently active community expertise to sort out Universe.
(11:01:16 AM) ScottK: That's it.
(11:02:13 AM) robbiew: thnx...and all noted
(11:02:32 AM) ScottK: On a related note, please let sparc die soon.
