Summary

Ubuntu Media Center has its own artwork, derived from the Ubuntu one, and specific for media center needs.

The name of the artwork is Chlorophyll, since the project has selected the green and black as the main colors.

Rationale

Use cases

  • Default Ubuntu MC artwork
  • Extra themes for Ubuntu MC.

Scope

Design

The artwork is packaged in themes. Each theme contains (only considering the graphic side):

  • The Ubuntu Media Center logo,
  • A splash screen,
  • The background image(s) of the screen(s),
  • Background image for buttons, with and without focus,
  • Images to identify the different modules : TV, FM, movies, music and pictures, ...
  • Font information (name and size).

Color palette

The [http://www.kde-artists.org/node/172 KDE Oxygen] color palette has been selected. However, it needs a better green selection before being useful to the project.

Outstanding issues

BoF agenda and discussion

  • Topic : An UMC logo is needed

    • ArnaudQuette : For the moment, my vote goes to #5, though I don't find it as evocative as #1

      • update: #8 now, though it misses some more media: maybe a music note in a film strip in the lcd screen, or the media in the 3 "heads"
    • OuattaraAziz : my preference goes to the 1st one as it's evocative ( as for #2 ) and light ( I find the second one too charged.)

      • Tartopom : So do I.

        • ArnaudQuette : I would second that position for #1 if we have improved media icons. since it's more ubuntu like and more evocative.

          • The only problem with this one is the low res version (in ex. for favicon...). Have a look at the icon in the "Team and membership summary" for an example: https://launchpad.net/~umc-team Anyhow, a workaround is to have an enhanced version for low res

          • OuattaraAziz : That's right . for a tiny one like that, maybe we should rely on the shape and the color, so the #5 would be a nice alternative for a low res version.

          • JasonSimanek : #1 is very good about describing what UMC does, but #5 will do best at a variety of scales.

            • I'm planning to work on the green expansion of the palette this week. I'd also like to throw a few ideas out for the logo if I could. If I could have through this weekend to try and come up with something before you all decide it would be much appreciated.
    • LoicDardant : Personnaly it's the first for me. I don't think it will be bad for a little icon, just try and you can see it's a good icon. I'm waiting for other purpose from Jason !

    • DavidWhyte : I much prefer the first one. It does a really good job of showing what UMC is all about. I am not a big fan of the green colour though. Is there a reason green has been chosen?
