Top 10 Ubuntu Software Centre app downloads for November

This post on the Ubuntu App Developer site sums up the top 10 commercial and free apps downloaded during the month of November 2011 from the Ubuntu Software Centre.

The top 10 commercial apps downloaded include: Braid, Oil Rush(Pre-ordered Beta), TRAUMA, Fluendo DVD Player, Steel Storm: Burning Retribution, Monster RPG 2, World of Goo, The Clockwork Man: The Hidden World, Uplink, Fluendo Complete Playback Pack. Ubuntu 12.04 Development update

In this installment of the 12.04 Developer updates, Daniel Holbach shares with readers decisions concerning the desktop components being discussed on the developer mailing list including poppler and gobject-introspection bindings and webkit.

Looking at Quality Assurance in Precise, Holbach mentions and links to the improvements to the ISO tracker that were announced.

The highlighted event this week includes a recap from Bug Jam and Squashing Party in Portland, OR.

Those making the first timers lists (first upload into Ubuntu) include Graham Inggs, Alessandro Menti and Benjamin Kerensa.

Another milestone mentioned for the Ubuntu project noted in this update is that bug number 900,000 was filed the first week of December 2011.

Holbach concludes by letting readers know how they can get involved, find something to work and get in touch with developers.

Introducing odm.ubuntu.com

A new site was launched in conjunction with the Ubuntu Hardware summit last week: odm.ubuntu.com. This is a new portal dedicated to hardware manufacturers (ODM and OEMs) and engineers. This new site contains articles of interest to ODMs and are selected by the Canonical Hardware Enablement team.

Recaping the Bug Jam and Squashing Party in Portland, OR

Ubuntu Oregon LoCo Team Lead, Benjamin Kerensa, discusses the results of the first joint Ubuntu/Debian event held in Portland, Oregon where attendees spent the day learning about packaging, multiarch implementation and SRU verification.

Debian Developer and Ubuntu contributor Kees Cook also in attendance at this event discussed how he used EC2 instances to deploy build environments.

Steve Langasek, Debian Developer and Ubuntu Foundation Team Manager was on scene as well and in the link below writes about the the successes of this first combined Ubuntu/Debian event. “When all was said and done, we didn't get a chance to tackle any wheezy release critical bugs like we'd hoped. That's ok, that leaves us something to do for our next event, which will be bigger and even better than this one. Maybe even big enough to rival one of those crazy, all-weekend BSPs that they have in Germany..., “ concludes Langasek.

Custom bug listings – have your say

Dan Harrop-Griffiths, sends out a thank you to those who helped test the beta version of the custom bug listings in Launchpad. He also asks Launchpad users for more feedback. "We want to improve how the default information is displayed to make this tool work better, so we've put together a super-quick survey to find out: What information about a bug you most want to see in bug listings; What the default 'order by' options should be; If you'd like to see any other 'order by options."

Italian Rock Band Release Album Recorded Using Ubuntu

Joey Sneddon, OMG! Ubuntu!, highlights the fact that the debut album from Italian rock band "Garage Orchestra!" was recorded, mixed and mastered using entirely free open-source software.

Sneddon writes, "'The Decision of Don Rodrigo', released by Futurebeat Ltd, was recorded at the Italian T.Rex music studio by sound engineer Giorgio Baù."

Ubuntu Hardware Summit 2011 | ODM Ubuntu Portal

At Ubuntu Hardware Summit discussion topics included building devices with OEMs and ODMs with Ubuntu-based system and support for Utouch gesture along with multi-touch capability. The Ubuntu Kernel team also covered the debugging process for Linux kernel and drivers integration process and more.

In addition to the Ubuntu Hardware Summit, Canonical announced launch of odm.ubuntu.com which aims to provide help to engineering, and developers with manufacturing devices running Ubuntu operating system.
