We are celebrating the release of Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) scheduled for October 29. Physical and virtual (IRC & other) events are taking place. Each release cycle a number of efforts happen around the release. Globally, UbuntuDeveloperWeek and UbuntuGlobalJam events happen a month or two before and focus on contributing to the release. Parties (listed below) and UbuntuOpenWeek happen near or after the release.

The 8-bit / Karmic party is being billed as "Data Beez" and performances run from 8-11. We are designating 7-8 as the Installfest, although of course everyone is free to keep installing stuff all night. How about some Linux LAN games? There is going to be some small reasonable cover charge for admission to the show, but anyone who comes to the Installfest with a laptop before 8 gets in free. If you don't have a laptop to bring but you want to volunteer to help with the Installfest, we will also have an RSVP list for volunteers to get in before 8.

Let's promote the hell out of this party to celebrate Linux, check out some top-of-the-line 8-bit music, and bring in a few people to help cover the expenses of bringing this great crew of artists in from NYC and elsewhere.

Southern California

On Saturday November 21st, Ubuntu California is hosting an installfest at Chapman University, in the city of Orange. We'll also be throwing a release party beforehand, within walking distance.

Installfest

• When: Sat. Nov 21 from 2pm to 7pm (at least)
• Where: Beckman Hall, Room 207 at Chapman University.

• Visitor parking (map) is on the north edge of campus, underneath the field.

• Parking is $5 for 12 hours, but the machine only takes $1s (It's also $2 for 2 hours, and $3 for 4 hours)

• Beckman Hall (map, directly south of the marker) is visible to your right as you walk up the steps of the parking lot

Release Party

• When: Sat. Nov. 21 from 12(noon) to 1:30pm
• Where: Zito's Pizza in Orange. (Glassell Street, within walking distance of Chapman)
• Some of us are meeting in front of Beckman Hall (and the library, there's a courtyard with a fountain) between 11:30 and 11:45 to walk to Zito's. Parking is also available behind Zito's (and around downtown Orange).

• Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" was announced as Ubuntu's stable release October 29th, 2009. Release notes contain important information and should be read before should be read before upgrading or installing. The Canonical press releases for the desktop & server versions have helpful Karmic overviews. For higher level descriptions, the Canonical Tour of new features and others might be interesting.

• When downloading Karmic, please use the *.torrent files whenever possible.

• The Ubuntu Developer Summit for Karmic Koala 9.10 was held Monday 25 May - Friday 29 May 2009, in Barcelona, Spain. A Technical Overview and Blueprints were used as guides for producing this release.
