The Ubuntu Malaysia LoCo Team (MalaysianTeam) aims to be the one stop for everything Ubuntu and for Malaysian Ubuntu lovers to gather, to share, meetup or even just to hang out. Embracing the humanity theme of Ubuntu, we welcome all who are interested in Ubuntu, GNU/Linux and Open Source Software in general to join us making Malaysia great for Ubuntu, GNU/Linux and Open Source.

Started in July 2005, the Malaysian Team has already grown to over 200 members and has been approved as official LoCo team since 2009. With this, we would like to maintain ourselves as official LoCo team, and this wiki is to prepare ourselves for the re-approval process after the team's application expired on Oct 30th, 2011.

Key Details

Roadmap for 2011/2012

  • Registered with ROS

    • We plan to have the LoCo registered as NGO with the Registrar of Societies (ROS), Malaysia so that our activities can be recognized and therefore pushing the LoCo brand and generally Ubuntu forward in Malaysia.

Achievements of 2010/2011 Roadmap

  • Spreading Ubuntu (continuous efforts)

  • Provide local supports (continuous efforts)

    • We found that most Malaysians are actively using Facebook for online communication. Therefore, we took an effort to manage Ubuntu Malaysia LoCo Team group on Facebook which currently have 796 members for easy local support.

    • We still maintain our IRC channel #ubuntu-my on freenode for realtime local support.
    • Our LoCo forum, at http://forums.ubuntu.com.my is also available for local support via forum. But lately, people are more on facebook.

  • More Ubuntu activities (continuous efforts)

    • Please refer to the Experiences / Efforts section below.
