Membership

Scheduled Activities:

  • The Arizona Team holds a Linux InstallFest on the First and Third Saturdays of each month at UAT. We collaborated with PLUG doing Installfests in 2008 and as a result now offer two per month instead of one. We currently have 1 portable server to host ISO's and have just added a PXE server to speed up some installs.

  • Ubuntu Hour Events are currently being held in Tempe and Surprise, Arizona. The Tucson events are currently on hold.
  • IRC meetings are held weekly on Sunday nights. The IRC channel is open 24 hours a day to help users with questions and communicate with team members.

Roadmap

  • State LUG Collaboration: Contact and pooling of resources with other LUGs across the state to promote events and further Ubuntu as an alternative We currently have 1 portable server to host ISO's and have just added a PXE server to speed up some installs.method of computing using desktop, server, and mobile versions. We have already established a relationship with:

  • Improve Global Jam participation: Schedule half the session for Global Jam and invite chosen people for testing and debugging.

  • Release Party & Installfest: Do demonstrations of new features and installations for our team and local groups.

  • Prescott LUG: Attend meeting occasionally. Distribute CD's, exchange Ubuntu & FOSS info and demonstrate new programs.

  • Phoenix LUG: Attend East side meetings every month. Distribute CD's, exchange Ubuntu & FOSS info and demonstrate new programs.

  • Local Ubuntu Advocacy: Continue to burn and distribute Ubuntu CDs for release parties, Installfests, and for team members to distribute to family, friends, neighbors, etc.

    • We have maintained our team IRC channel #ubuntu-us-az which we also monitor on a daily basis with our own stat reporting system Team IRC Stats.

      • Our monthly Installfests at the University of Advancing Technology assists new users with CD's, installs and training.

    • We encourage all team members to adopt the following signature on the forums to further promote our LoCo. The "ArizonaTeam wiki | Arizona Launchpad | and Membership" we have add our azloco.com email to offer a team related mail address and share documents on Google docs.

    • Established a Cafe Press Store to augment the available Ubuntu merchandise available at Canonical. It offers merchandise with our own team branding on it. Cafe Press Store

    • We installed 12.04 on the previous server and transferred our team web page to it.

    • Note:We have recently been given 3 Dell Poweredge 2950 servers in perfect condition for our team use. We will also be using them to educate team members in server development. We are looking for a new physical location for our servers.

  • Ubuntu Members:

    • We recently held a workshop to instruct more AZ Team Members how to apply for Ubuntu membership. This process is continuing.

This team provided me an immediate peer group and it continues to be a major hub in my social life. The continuous support and activities surrounding this LoCo have added the "Ubuntu Experience" to many many lives in AZ and has touched people's in other States and Countries. I'm positive the Council doesn't have to think long or hard about renewing this Team's membership. It's simple - this team works very hard and consistently to be and do everything a LoCo team should. Without 'The Hottest loCo on Earth' many people would lose a huge part of their lives and Ubuntu would also suffer loss.

  • I have had contact with the Arizona Ubuntu LoCo for quite some time now. I have often benefited from the tips and tricks, relayed back and forth in formal and informal meetings. I enjoy meeting with the people, and the install fests are a phenomenal example of service and advocacy of Linux/Ubuntu. The AZLoCo has shown time and time again its positive impact as a champion for Ubuntu and the values it represents.

  • meskes@gmail.com I've used Ubuntu since the first release, back in 2004. I found the team in 2006 and started to interact with them. After that, I have been regular ever since. The sense of community that this team has is bar-none, in my opinion. As a long time user I often find myself on the giving as well as the receiving end of "tips and tricks" as well as giving general advice to other users who may or may not be as experienced as myself.

  • What really blows me away however, is when you find those users who are genuinely prodigies on the platform, whom have never had any formal training in their lives. They just either sat down with a book and read, or they just "did". If I had never found this channel, I honestly think that I would have never met some of these prodigies. In a way, while I was doing my personal form of "community outreach", the community actually turned around reached out to me. I personally think, while it may be one of the smaller of the LoCos, the ambassadorship of the AzLoCo ranks right up there with the largest of teams and the value it provides for Ubuntu and the Open Source community, in general is invaluable.
