Meeting

Revision 97 as of 2009-05-06 08:40:25

Clear message

NOTE: Team meeting times and locations have changed.

The kernel team holds weekly public meetings on irc.freenode.net in #ubuntu-meeting, on Tuesdays from 17:00 UTC to 18:00 UTC. The meeting is skipped for weeks where there is a public Ubuntu Developer Meeting. If there are any discussion points or items for decision that you would like to add to the agenda below, add an item to it and begin preparations to present a short introduction to the topic on #ubuntu-meeting during the scheduled session.

If you have have been working hard on the project and want to let others know what you have been up to, try to summarize it on the Reporting Page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/ReportingPage

As usual, anyone interested in the development of the Ubuntu Kernel are welcome to attend.

Tue, March 18, 2008

  • Team status
    • Tim Gardner (rtg) and Stefan Bader (smb): On holiday
    • Colin King (cking)
      • Investigating hardy kernel bugs for RC
      • Moving on to boot loader issues for intrepid
    • Amit Kucheria (amitk)
      • Mobile hardware testing
      • Preparing intrepid kernel tree
      • Preparing separate intrepid tree for UME/MID
  • Re-iterated the policies for kernel freeze during beta/RC

The basic points of our current bug policy is that we will mainly focus on bugs that prevent users from booting/installing Ubuntu.

Bugs that fall into this category are mainly graphics and storage related, but generally covers networking as well.

Other bugs will either be deferred to 8.04.1 point release, or for 8.10, depending on the bug.

Exceptions to this can occur, but are not likely...basis for exceptions will be the estimated number of people affected by the bug, and the complexity of the fix (IOW, the trivial fixes with least chances of regression may be considered).

We only have one more _planned_ kernel upload, as per the kernel release schedule (linked to a google cal from KernelTeam wiki).

Tue, March 4, 2008

  • Team status
    • Amit Kucheria
      • Worked with UME team to get a kernel image out to Intel
      • Integration of WLAM and DRM drivers for Intel Atom processors
      • Working to get USB_PERSIST enabled and usable for certain platforms
      • Started MID/UME stock-source+build-system tree
    • Tim Gardner

    • Stefan Bader
      • i915 drm patches
      • Build script work
  • QA Bug list: Last week was great work for the team. Only one bug carried over.
  • Make sure everyone is aware of Tim being out March 5-26 for his vacation.
  • Pointed out that team needs to make a stronger effort to use public communication for general discussions, where possible.

Tue, February 19, 2008

  • Alpha 5 approaches, but the -9 kernel uploaded for it had a build failure due to junk in control file
    • Upload deferred until after A5 due to freeze
    • Also need to address some ABI issues in linux-ubuntu-modules (at kernel team sprint)
    • Need to fix linux-backports-modules meta packages as well (rtg)
    • dmraid45 needed fixing (noted by smb)
    • Kernel upload missed scheduled window by one day, which didn't allow for fixup before freeze.
  • QA bug list handled very well. Need to get past bugs that are unassigned either closed as wont-fix, or assigned to a team member.

Tue, February 12, 2008

  • Team status
    • AmitKucheria: Mobile updates coming up in the next week, including graphics and dma drivers for hardy lpia kernel.

    • TimGardner: Coordinating with Amit for -8 kernel, targeted for Alpha 5. Expressed concern about an change in IDE drivers (sda->hda). Needs to be addressed ASAP.
