Ubuntu "Staff" out of control |
Over the past couple of months we have seen an increase in unacceptable behaviour by Ubuntu "staff" members on IRC. There is currently a campaign against a user known as emma which is consolidated across the majority of the Ubuntu-Ops team which is in blatant disparity to the Ubuntu Code of Conduct. Furthermore users are being banned from official Ubuntu channels without legitimate reason and then told to "Get a sense a humour" when they complain about it and to top it all off, Ubuntu staff (such as Hobbsee) are sending messages to other users on IRC insulting members of the Ubuntu community. I hearby call for Canonical to intervene and reign in their "staff" before significant damage is done to the community and the Ubuntu brand |

Logging of Ubuntu irc rooms by an Israeli company |
There are rumours going around the Ubuntu community at the moment that an Israeli company have been granted permission (some rumours even say "sold permission") to log the official Ubuntu chatrooms on Freenode IRC network. When this matter has been attempted to be raised with the Ubuntu IRC staff the users have been threatened and banned from channels to try and silence them on the issue. Obviously this raises serious concerns over privacy for many users and I hearby request Canonical to intervene and investigate this matter. Furthermore I would like to see full disclosure on this matter once the investigation is complete.-- PriceChild: Decision by IRC Council was published [https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-irc/2007-December/000383.html here] I don't believe you've asked any of the council, or in #ubuntu-ops about it, please do. |

Logging of Ubuntu IRC Rooms by Israeli company NOTATION ONLY |
This rumour is not exactly a rumour. I just wanted to add an official FreeNode post here: http://blog.freenode.net/?p=68 FreeNode acknowledges IRSeek (The "Israeli logging bots"). They are OPT-IN only. I have seen them in some LoCo channels, personally. They are allowed on a case-by-case basis and are reviewed officially by IRSeek staff members and approved/opted-in by the founders/founder-level ACCESS (and IRSeek employees check this with the ChanServ ACCESS List). IRSeek homepage: http://www.irseek.com/ If Ubuntu wants to adopt an official policy on IRSeek bots it would most likely affect ALL Bots (or all LOGGING bots) allowed on all channels. My opinion on this: It is very hard to find out how/who to contact to get an official Ubuntu logging (LoCo Bot or otherwise) in your Ubuntu Channel. So, users have chosen to adopt another logging bot standard that is an "out of the box solution" with a fast turn around time and this is an opt-in solution called IRSeek. This is only a NOTATION and is my opinion only to the above referenced post. See Pricechild's post above... |
