OSCON2009
|
OSCON is a convention of open source developers, activists, and other interested people created by O'Reilly Media. Ubuntu California has talked with the organizers, and is confirmed for a booth in the convention's expo hall (along with a lot of other cool groups!).
Location and Times
This year, the convention will be at the San Jose Convention Center (Google Maps, SanJose.org) in San Jose, CA. Our booth is at location T4.
Onsite info and the event schedule have useful information for attendees.
The Expo Hall will be open 10:00 to 17:00 on July 22rd and 23th (Wednesday and Thursday). We'll also be around for a few hours before and after those times to set up and take down the booth. Wednesday the floor opens at 7:30 AM for exhibitor setup.
Booth Activities
Current ideas for activities that Ubuntu California people will be doing at the booth include:
- Passing out Ubuntu CDs
- Demonstrating Ubuntu using laptop computers (since we probably won't have power)
- Talking to people and giving them information and links to address questions and concerns
- Taking signups for our mailing list or Ubuntu's news mailing list (or some other mailing list?)
Using the Staffers page answer question about the presentations and attendance of Ubuntu and Canonical staff.
- Your idea here (feel free to edit this page and add one!)
Volunteers
If you're going to attend OSCON and want to volunteer to help at the booth, please add your name to the following list to give us an idea of how many people we'll have available. You don't have to be 100% sure right now, and we'll hopefully have enough people that you don't have to be there the whole time (which is good, because the other booths look really cool too).
You can register with O'Reilly for an expo pass (free). I'm not sure if there's a limit on attendees, so it might be good to do that just in case.
Possible volunteer list
People who specifically added their name to this page, or said they might show up in meetings, on the mailing list, etc:
Eric Hammond (speaking and attending, but not able to commit to specific booth hours)

Booth Materials
If you think of anything else (large or small) we need, please add it to the list. If the reason it is needed/wanted isn't obvious, explain the reasoning in the description area. This should be an all encompassing list, from duct tape to computers to scratch paper. When in doubt, add it and mention you're unsure in the description.
If you can provide something, please sign your name in the volunteer column (more than one person per item is fine). If you have anything else to say about it (like, "I'm 60% sure I have one of these") use the comments field. If you're providing a part of something (a computer but no monitor) make sure you mention that as well.
If you can't figure out the wiki formatting, just add items/comments underneath, and someone else will come wikify it.
Feel free to make any comments/suggestions/additions!
